Module 7 – Assisted reproduction techniques

This 6 hour seminar explores all aspects of assisted reproduction techniques. This course takes an in depth look at:

  • Preparing the clinical area
  • Providing emotional support to both partners during the procedure
  • Understanding the investigations prior to IVF treatment
  • Awareness of laboratory procedure
  • Administer drugs safely
  • Best practice for handling of gametes and embryos
  • Explaining to patients the choice of drugs, treatment process and how to inject safely
  • Preparing patients for procedures
  • Knowledge of the pelvic structure
  • Accurate documentation
  • Advice and counselling in follow up
  • Identifying poor ovarian reserve and potential for IUI
  • Determining of lutheal phase progesterone is required
  • Identify if agnostics are required when patient has had above average response
  • Understand the risks of OHSS
  • Supporting colleagues
  • Training junior members of the team
  • Following RCOG guidelines on OHSS and reporting to HFEA.

After watching the seminar, attendees are asked to complete an evaluation in order to receive their certificate of attendance worth 6 CPD points.

This course is ideal for newly qualified nurses or experienced nurses who are new to fertility. This course is also useful for experienced nurses to highlight gaps in knowledge or for nurses who wish to progress to management or advanced practitioner level.
