Kenneth WalkerSenior Embryologist

When Kenneth finished his tour of duty with the military, he began his studies at Southern Oregon State College as a pre-law student. After a year at SOSC he found his passion was for science and not law so he relocated to Idaho to study science.  After receiving his degree in Biology and secondary education at Idaho State University, he was asked to teach biology at a local High School but with his interest and studies in cellular biology he reached out to the science community and was soon asked to join the first IVF Program in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he worked with Dr. Shapiro and supervised the IVF, Andrology and Endocrine labs at FCLV, assisting Dr Shapiro with numerous research projects in pronuclear identification, pH studies and IntraCytoplasmic Injection research when ICSI was just getting started.

With his experience gained at FCLV he was recruited to open a new clinic in South Texas.

At that time, ZIFT (Zygote IntraFallopian tube Transfer) and GIFT (Gamete IntraFallopian tube Transfer) were a very popular treatment with IVF so he became a surgical technician to work side by side with the RE physician in the OR, performing the removal of uterine fibroids, polyps, pelvic adhesions, and endometriosis tissue to help women achieve better health and increase their chances for pregnancy.  After almost a decade in South Texas where he was able to achieve some of the highest pregnancy rates in the country, he was again asked to build a new IVF program, but this time in West Texas.

After just a couple of years he was able to build a successful IVF lab and left to direct a lab closer to his roots in Washington state where he continued his successes in the lab while also collaborating on research projects with Universities and Hospitals like Brigham and Young Women’s hospita in Boston (one of the largest programs in the United States) to develop new ways to vitrify eggs and embryos. He also collaborated on published papers on Intrauterine inseminations and on the effect of contaminants and infections on spermatozoa .

Since starting in the 1990’s Kenneth has performed thousands of egg retrievals, fresh and frozen embryo transfers, ICSI’s, embryo vitrifications, Blastocyst cultures, sperm preparations, Andrology tests, and many other procedures required in an IVF and Andrology laboratory.

He has been an IVF laboratory supervisor since 1993, in 2000 he became an IVF Technical supervisor and in 2010 he was certified as an Embryo Laboratory Director.

As a diver and outdoor enthusiast he is very excited to be in the Cayman Islands and to join the team at Cayman Fertility Center, bringing almost 30 years of experience as a senior embryologist in IVF, he looks forward to the success and relationships he will have with the patients that come to the center and the people of the Cayman islands.
