This 7 hour seminar looks at the use of donor sperm. This course covers:
- Preparing the clinical area
- Providing emotional support to the patient and their partner during the procedure
- Gaining knowledge on the development of sperm and egg
- Gaining knowledge on the causes of male infertility
- Basics of donor screening
- Storage procedures
- Management and consent
- Counsel patients on risk of multiple pregnancy, storage limits and sibling use
- HFEA code of practice
- Nurse led monitoring of the menstrual cycle for donor insemination and IUI
- Ultrasound investigation
- Planning insemination with ovulation
- Liaising with laboratory for timing
- Training of junior team members
- Local legislation
- Advice to patients on decision making
- Procurement of samples of cyropreserved semen.
After watching the seminar, attendees are asked to complete an evaluation in order to receive their certificate of attendance worth 7 CPD points.
This course is ideal for newly qualified nurses or experienced nurses who are new to fertility. This course is also useful for experienced nurses to highlight gaps in knowledge or for nurses who wish to progress to management or advanced practitioner level.
